The Film
A nation looks at itself at a moment of crisis.
The film addresses the crisis of the 2020s in Slovenia and Europe from the perspective of national identity. It brings together the leading politicians and thinkers from the time of Slovenia's establishment as an independent nation-state. Across the political spectrum, they articulate the economic, social, cultural and demographic crises of the era — and collectively address the question of the Slovenian people's continued existence in history.
Television series
Conceived for television distribution and online platforms, produced in five parts. Completion expected in 2027.
Also a film
A shorter version of the project is produced as a single feature film — the same material, one complete statement.

The Big Picture: Interviews

Slovenia and Yugoslavia
The demographic question under socialism and capitalism. Slovenia sits at the crossroads of East and West — a unique vantage point on how political systems shape fertility and decline.
Slovenia and the European Union
Models of integration, from a trade union to a federation; Europe's divisions — north, south, east, west, centre. An "open society" vs. authoritarianism, multiculturalism vs. ethnic homogeneity. The danger of sliding into fascism and chauvinism — is there a third way?

Approach
How the film is made — and why.
Form
The film interweaves short formalistic sequences with long documentary monologues, set in contrast to archival footage.
Form is crucial to the work: this is a film in which the way an image is made matters as much as what is said.
No single thesis
The film does not present a one-sided argument and avoids a propagandistic approach. It brings representatives from across the political spectrum into its narrative and builds dialectical tension between them — left and right, politics and aesthetics.
The finished film cannot be reduced to one thesis: it explores contradictions and dual perspectives within each theme.
Visual Identity
One system, built from the film's own logic — for the poster, the screens and the film itself.
The composition
The flag, not as a literal tricolor, but as structure: its three bands become the vertical rails the identity is built on — the verticality of the poster, tied to the shape of the flag.
The left–right tension at the heart of the film lives inside those bands. A few chosen voices carry the composition; the rest of the cast becomes texture — a nation of faces that stays legible.
The coat of arms is reduced to a simplified mark — heritage without heraldic noise.

Two typographic voices
A classic serif speaks for the nation — the title lockup. A contemporary grotesque speaks for the crisis — the system, credits and titles.
The Slovene diacritics — č, š, ž — guide the choice of type.
The identity is bilingual: Slovene as the primary lockup, English as the variant for festivals and platforms.

Survival
The contemporary voice — the system, credits, intertitles, information.
One system, everywhere
The identity starts from a vertical master poster and adapts to square and social formats — one composition, many surfaces.
It scales into the film itself: titles, intertitles and quotes share the same voice. Designed once, used across the series.
The palette
The tone of the film — a "black modernist" formalism: grey and black, fire and old libraries — is the palette of the identity. The national colours live in the structure.

Concept
A short research phase with a moodboard, then a concept presentation built around the composition above.
Design
The master poster and the full identity system — developed hands-on, with two rounds of revisions.
Delivery
Source files and web-ready formats, in Slovene and English — everything ready for print, screen and social.
